THE PAWSITIVE PATHS STORY

Have you ever had an epiphany? (Definition: A divine manifestation). That is exactly how Pawsitive Paths became a reality. I was driving down the road reflecting about how wonderful the real estate market used to be in Hampton Roads. I was blessed to be a very successful agent but the soft market was starting to take a toll on me. I had reached a "crossroads" in my life and needed to make some serious changes. Where to start? What to do? I decided to have a little talk with the "man upstairs". I wasn't really sure if he'ld be listening but I thought I'ld give it a shot.

Over the James River Bridge I traveled admiring the lovely sunset. "God, please show me what I'm supposed to be doing with my life". After having a discussion with what appeared to be myself for about 5 minutes questions started pouring into my mind. "What are your true passions?" "How can you help others?" Hmmm. Animals are my passion. Helping them. Healing them. "Canine Massage," I heard. "Canine Massage?", I replied. "Yes." "How do I start?" "Not to worry. It will happen".

I was no stranger to the field as my Rottweiler had actually been saved by massage over 10 years ago (see Greta's Story). I currently have a rescued Bloodhound (see before & after pictures below) who was changed by touch . I know the impact massage has on an animal first hand. I was excited to learn more and eager to get to my computer. What started out as another car ride over the bridge ended with a life changing epiphany.

Immediately, I started researching who offered the most comprehensive course in the industry. I enrolled in the Canine Massage Therapy Certification program with Equissage. Equissage was founded and incorporated in 1989 by Mary A. Schreiber. Mary became interested in using massage on animals, specifically horses, as a result of the outstanding benefits she saw on human clients. It was to be the first such program in the WORLD. Equissage has graduated more than 8,000 Equine Sports Massage Technicians from every state and 19 different countries around the world. Some graduates have been selected to work with the U.S. Equestrian Team at the Olympics, while others have worked on winners of the Triple Crown.

In early 2000, Equissage added a Canine Massage Therapy Certification program. It has proven to be every bit as successful and popular as the original equine massage program. When I read the history and the testimonials I knew Equissage was where I needed to start. I successfully completed the required hours of continuing education and received the Certified Canine Massage Therapist accreditation.  The rest , as the saying goes, is history.

I am committed to providing your animal with the highest level of care that I am capable of giving. We owe it to our pets to do everything in our power to provide them with the necessary tools to maintain a happy, healthy life.
